The
cheongsam invented in Shanghai is a modernized version of the
traditional qipao, a garment worn by Chinese women since the 17th
century. While the original qipao was wide and loose, the version
invented in the 1920s was form-fitting, and cut high on the sides. The
dress was first worn by socialites and courtesans, and soon became
immensely popular. By the 1950s, cheongsams were also made in materials
like wool and twill for women to wear in the workplace. The dress also
became briefly popular in the West during the 1960s.
Most
brides want to look glamorous and elegant on their big day, mermaid
bridal gowns can fulfill their needs. They are usually made from
fabrics, such as the aforementioned satin, which are appropriate for
more formal weddings. In general, you can see them done in delicate
laces that will tone down the drama of a mermaid to make it more
wearable for less formal events. Women who want to show off their
curvaceous figures can choose it to do so.
The
cheongsam is a traditional Chinese Wedding Gown that has a long history
since its inception. Cheongsam as they are known today means 'long
dress', but they were originally known as qipao. They first appeared in
the 17th century China during the Qing Dynasty in its basic form. It was
basically a one-piece suit dress that covered the wearer from neck to
foot and were long-sleeved. There were some variants that consisted of a
two-piece dress set, a pair of trousers with long overdress. QiPaos are
made out of many materials, with the high end ones made out of beads
(like the one I wore for my wedding) and are often custom made. In
weddings, the bride will often have multiple QiPaos. The traditional
color for weddings is Red (a good luck color in Chinese). In the movie,
In The Mood For Love, the female protagonist wears beautiful QiPaos.
For those of you who have never worn a cheongsam quick link
before, you will be amazed by how beautiful, elegant and charming a

well-fitted cheongsam is made to accentuate the best of your figure and
to express your feminine side. Interestingly, woman of many shapes and
sizes (including plus-size) can wear a cheongsam, as long as the size is
right. Minor alterations may be necessary at times but it is definitely
worth the time and effort for a more glamorous look. There is a variety
