Kurt Cobain, 1967-1994
If Kurt Cobain had not shot himself through the temple
with a shotgun on April 5, 1994, he would be 42 years old this year.
Maybe still with Nirvana, maybe not. Maybe still in Seattle, maybe not.
Maybe still married to Courtney Love, maybe (probably) not.
Wherever and whatever he’d be, Cobain would not command the aggrieved
adoration his suicide inspired in his fans, moving thousands to pay
tribute after an electrician discovered his body lying on the floor in
his Madrona home 15 years ago Wednesday.
The day of the discovery, Seattle Post-Intelligencer reporters and
photographers scrambled to cover the aftermath of one of the defining
moments in modern rock.
Where were you?
Kurt Cobain’s body was found in a greenhouse above the garage of his
home in the Madrona area. The medical examiner would later confirm
Cobain died on the afternoon or evening of April 5, 1994. (Phil H.

The body of Kurt cobain, lead singer of the grunge band Nirvana, is
removed from a detached structure at Cobain’s home near Lake Washington.
Cobain’s death was apparently caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
