it’s funny how u hear one song, and it can set u off on a tangent. I was listening to Nirvana’s In Utero
album, and “Rape Me” came on. I don’t really care for the song, but I
can still remember all the hubbub surrounding it’s release in 1993. in
retrospect, this post should’ve came out 20 years ago, b/c GWAR released
“Rape Me”, the year before, when it was called “Pussy Planet” on the America Must Be Destroyed album.
while I’m talking about Kurt Cobain, let’s talk about the title of this post. from 1988 until his death in 1991, Dead was the vocalist for Mayhem. ppl who knew him, said he was an individual, who was very difficult to get close to. during his childhood, he was bullied in school (like Cobain was) Dead was never satisfied with life, and would bury his clothes, before a show. he committed suicide via shotgun blast to the head. a photo of his corpse is used on the cover of the Dawn of the Black Hearts bootleg, released in 1995. it is also rumoured that the late Euronymous made a necklace out of fragments of his skull. so in some ways, Dead was like Kurt Cobain, just not on as big a scale.
P.S.- GWAR returns to Sonar in Baltimore on April 21!
