Week in Review: Does the Ghastly Kurt Cobain Avatar Also Enjoy Salty Ice Cream on Occasion?

While summer won't officially turn to fall for a few more weeks, things sure started feeling positively autumnal this week, wouldn't you say? Let's take a look back to remember where we were when we broke our fall coats out of the closet.
• We've put lots of different toppings on ice cream over the years, but never salt. This week's episode of Mad Men, which featured a star turn from Sally Draper, taught us that it used to be cool.

• Courtney Love, Dave Grohl, and Krist Novoselic didn't exactly approve of Kurt Cobain's digital likeness singing along to Bon Jovi. Too bad, maybe Courtney should have thought of that before signing the paperwork that authorized it.

• Mere days before Jay Leno starts his new show, he's been put in the unusual position of being the scourge of Hollywood. Maybe having Michael Moore on the show will change that?

• Should you watch the VMAs on Sunday night? Let us help you decide.

• Last week ended with SNL dismissing two of its cast members, which got us wondering which performer has had the shortest tenure on the show. We sincerely hope (and believe) that new featured player Jenny Slate will last longer.

• Should you go out and buy the new Beatles remasters? These handy charts should help you decide!

• Jermaine Jackson hastily announced plans for a Michael Jackson tribute concert on Tuesday. By Thursday, headliners Mary J Blige and Chris Brown had pulled out, leaving Jermaine with no choice but to pull the plug on the show today. Bummer!

• Phil Collins Hugh Jackman had a sandwich named after him, and he plans to eat it!

• Fox's unique marketing strategy for Glee, which stars former Spring Awakening star Lea Michele, sure seemed to pay off in the ratings.

• We don't ask for much, damn it. So why can't Hollywood get its act together and make a decent He-Man movie, already?

• Any chance of Paula Abdul returning to American Idol next season faded when producers named Ellen DeGeneres as the new fourth judge.

• Hey, missy, what are you wearing underneath that bonnet?

• Phil Pullman is really gonna show those Christians this time!

• Did Wes Anderson direct The Fantastic Mr. Fox via e-mail? Possibly!

• In Hollywood, the rich always get richer. This summer was no exception.
