Was Courtney Love’s Kurt Cobain rant staged?
So was Courtney Love really irate when she called out a fan in Sao Paulo for holding up a photo of Kurt Cobain? Or was it all a publicity stunt for her upcoming memoir and reemergence into current popular culture?
When I wrote yesterday about the confrontation, it sounded like classic Courtney Love. She spotted the fan holding a photo of Cobain, who was married to Love before committing suicide in 1994, and stopped the show to tell him off.
“I don’t need to see a picture of Kurt, (bleephole), and I’m going to have you (bleeping) removed if you keep holding that up,” Love said.
Since then, video of the so-called blowup has surfaced on YouTube, courtesy of Brazil’s Multishow — and the whole thing seems a little contrived.
Love’s placid demeanor. The well-placed cameras. The backstage hand-to-ear gesture that’s probably not typical of a woman who’s really seething with rage.
Then again, it’s Courtney Love. Watch the video for yourself and decide.
NSFW warning: This video contains tons of profanity and a not-so-cool implication about homosexuality. I watched it at work because that’s my job, but you probably shouldn’t.
